Body found: January 7, 1990
Daviess County, Kentucky PHILPOT, KY (WFIE) - The body of a white male was found January 7th, 1990. It was discovered 2 1/2 miles northwest of Philpot, Kentucky in Daviess County.
He was found
**** in a sparsely wooded area off of Pleasant Valley road. He had been shot six times in the head with a .22 caliber weapon.
His hands and his feet had been cut off. The victim was so severely beaten he was unrecognizable and some of his teeth had been knocked out. His hands and feet have never been found and he has never been identified.
A police reconstructionist drew the picture to the left depicting what the man would look like. He's described as 35-40 years old, 5'6 or 5'7, 125-140 pounds. He had brown hair, and light skin with a farmer's tan.
Police say his eyes were possibly blue. The man was cleanly shaven and there were no scars, tattoos, piercings or physical deformities on his body.
The body was not decomposed when found, indicating he hadn't been dead for an extremely long time. In January 2007, Detective Juan Moorman attended a new detective's in-service at the Kentucky State Police Training Academy.
Detective Moorman used new information learned from the training to send a missing person teletype through National Crime Information Center.
On January 05, 2007 Detective Moorman sent a nation wide search utilizing known descriptors of the victim, which initially produced 19 responses. Those initial responses were investigated and dismissed due to the ages of those victims.
On January 31, 2007 Detective Moorman received a single response from the Indianapolis Police Department. This response contained information on Scott Michael Morris who was last seen on August 14, 1978. I
In February 2007, Kentucky State Police detectives Juan Moorman and Angela Jones, and Detective Jerry Spurrier with the Daviess County Sheriff's Office went to Indianapolis and obtained comparison DNA samples from Morris' family members.
On Tuesday, September 11, 2007 Detective Moorman received verbal confirmation that the previously unidentified victim was in fact Scott Michael Morris. Detective Moorman and Detective Spurrier are actively pursuing leads, and investigating subjects known to have been associated with Scott Michael Morris at the time of his disappearance.
September 11, 2007 I released to the media that Detective Moorman had received verbal information identifying the remains as being that of Scott Michael Morris. Further testing has revealed the victim is not related to the Morris family, and is in fact not Scott Michael Morris.
Morris continues to be missing from Indianapolis Indiana. This case remains under investigation.
