Human remains in Dickson cistern found by electric crew investigated

Human remains that were found by an electric department crew in an old, open cistern in Dickson County are being investigated by the Dickson County Sheriff's Office and the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation.

Shortly before noon Friday, a crew clearing the right of way for the Dickson Electric System near Rock Springs Road discovered an open cistern at an old home site. They looked in the cistern, saw skeletal remains and notified the sheriff's office, according to law enforcement officials.

A deputy responded and requested the criminal investigation division. Detectives responded to the scene along with the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation.

Members of Dickson Fire Department’s technical rescue team and the Water Authority of Dickson County assisted in the recovery of the body.

Investigation ongoing after skeletal remains found in Dickson County

Officials are continuing to investigate after skeletal remains that investigators believe belong to an adult were found in Dickson County.

On Friday morning, a crew clearing the right of way for Dickson Electric System employes found the remains inside an open cistern on private property in the 200 block of Blackie Road.

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation responded to the scene at the request of District Attorney General Ray Crouch.

For the past three decades, Dickson County detectives have been looking for the remains of Leanne Green. The high school junior went missing in Dickson County in 1987. Green was with her brother when the car he was driving ran out of gas. He walked to get help, but when he returned to the car, Green was missing with her purse still inside the car. She has not been seen since.

Green's disappearance is called Dickson County’s biggest mystery.

“Almost 32 years now,” said Sheriff Jeff Bledsoe. “There is a handful that sticks with you or in your mind and in your heart. Leanne Greene is one of them. We had 31 years last month, last minute things that were in the middle of that. We have been unable to account for her.”

The skeletal remains have been taken to the medical examiner's office in Nashville. They are working to determine the identity, age and gender of the person.

Both the Dickson County Sheriff's Office and the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation are involved in the investigation. Anyone with information about the case is urged to contact either law enforcement agency.

Deceased Dickson county man went by alias, TBI seeking real identity

CHARLOTTE, Tenn. (WTVF) — The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI) is working to identify a man who was found deceased in Dickson County in May 2018.

While investigating the death, agents discovered that the man had been living under the fictitious name, "Steve Johnson".

"Johnson" had been living with a female named Patricia Beals for several years at a home on Rock Springs Road in Charlotte at the time of his death.

He was a white male with short grey and white hair. He was approximately 5'6" tall and had a thin to average build.

The man was also known to walk with a cane and had a limp that may have been caused by a stroke he had a few years prior to his death.

He drove a white Nissan truck and would commonly pick mushrooms from the wooded areas around his home.

Investigators believe that the man had actually be deceased for close to two years before his body was discovered.

Prior to his death he had told a friend that he was moving to Knoxville to live with a friend known as "Charlie". He had also referenced a friend named "Buster" who was going to provide him a ride from Charlotte to Knoxville.

If you knew "Steve" under another name or you recognize the sketch of him above, please contact the TBI at 1-800-TBI-FIND.
