On Friday morning, a crew clearing the right of way for Dickson Electric System employes found the remains inside an open cistern on private property in the 200 block of Blackie Road.
The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation responded to the scene at the request of District Attorney General Ray Crouch.
For the past three decades, Dickson County detectives have been looking for the remains of Leanne Green. The high school junior went missing in Dickson County in 1987. Green was with her brother when the car he was driving ran out of gas. He walked to get help, but when he returned to the car, Green was missing with her purse still inside the car. She has not been seen since.
Green's disappearance is called Dickson County’s biggest mystery.
“Almost 32 years now,” said Sheriff Jeff Bledsoe. “There is a handful that sticks with you or in your mind and in your heart. Leanne Greene is one of them. We had 31 years last month, last minute things that were in the middle of that. We have been unable to account for her.”
The skeletal remains have been taken to the medical examiner's office in Nashville. They are working to determine the identity, age and gender of the person.
Both the Dickson County Sheriff's Office and the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation are involved in the investigation. Anyone with information about the case is urged to contact either law enforcement agency.
