South Padre Island Jane Doe

On October 10, 2012, a man walking along the beach on South Padre Island, Texas, spotted some coyotes dining on something in the sand dunes. It turned out to be a woman’s body.

I never, ever want to be the one to discover something like that. Ewwww.

The gruesome discovery was located about 5 or 6 miles north of Beach Access 6. The poor guy who found it did the right thing and alerted deputies.

The body had only been there for a week or so. She’d been buried between the sand dunes and the shore, covered in lime. Obviously somebody was doing his best so she wouldn’t be found. He didn’t count on the coyotes and the tide.

According to authorities, the woman was likely white Hispanic. She stood about 5 feet tall and weighed 100 to 120 pounds — a small lady. She had coarse black hair about 17 inches long. Her age was between 43 and 55 years old.

Interestingly, the woman had had cosmetic tattooing done on her eyebrows, eyelids and lips. I hope that will ring some bells with people whose mom, sister, aunt or daughter is missing. She also had her ears pierced.

The body was found clothed. She was wearing a “Paris Blues” brand tank top – likely purple, size M. She had “Komar Kids” brand shorts with a blue, green and white plaid pattern and pink stars, size L/G 10/12. Her underwear was a pair of red bikini panties with a sanitary pad.

I can find no autopsy results, but the police have classified Jane Doe 10708 as a murder victim.

Authorities released a sketch of the woman (see above). It makes her look very young and very pretty. Unfortunately, nobody stepped forward to identify her.

In June 2013, Texas Rangers released a new facial reconstruction built upon the victim’s skull. Again there has been no positive outcome. And so, naturally, I just had to do my part and create my own version of Jane Doe 10708.

I figured, since the woman wasn’t very young, that maybe the problem is that the previous versions hadn’t added enough years to her face. Being an old broad myself, I know that crappy things happen with age — wrinkles, sagging, bags and jowls. You don’t keep the firm roundness and taut skin of your youth. You start to develop dark spots and sun damage. Your eyelids get heavy, and your neck ages too. As I say, crappy things happen.

Now you may argue that she’s not so old since she had a sanitary pad. To that I respond a lot of women use them for incontinence issues, and some women don’t reach menopause until their mid-50’s anyway.

Thus we come to my version of the victim. She’s sporting the cosmetic tattoos, plus the effects of getting older. I hope, hope, hope that somebody will now recognize her. She died in September or October 2012, so it’s not likely she’s been forgotten already. Maybe her family thinks she’s traveling or has moved, and haven’t reported her as missing yet.

If anybody has any clue about who this woman is, please contact the Office of the Cameron County JP (956) 427-8057. The listed case manager is Elizabeth Miller (956) 389-1956. The case number is OA12-137.

And if anybody has any clue as to the identity of the killer, please contact the police.
