On June 13, 1972 a 14 year old boy was pushing his bicycle to a nearby gas station on a country road to put air in his tire when he came across the body of a savagely beaten boy in a creek.
The child was found in the shallow waters of Massey Creek on Old Colchester Road just off of Interstate 95 and not far from Fort Belvoir.
He had suffered blunt force trauma injuries to the head and abrasions on his entire body, including old scars from obvious past physical abuse.
He was stripped naked, but police found no evidence that he was sexually abused.
The autopsy found that the boy had a full stomach indicating he likely ate a meal prior to the ruthless, brutal beating that ultimately ended his short, innocent life.
The child's face was so battered, it required a forensic artist to reconstruct police photos taken of the child in an attempt to restore what the child may have appeared to look like while alive.
At the time of his death, police checked teletypes for missing children through out the East Coast, but none matched.
Investigators named this child "Tyrone", but would like to rightfully return him his true identity.
The child was buried by a local Alexandria Christian charitable association.

Cold case: Identity of child in Virginia creek remains a mystery

By SCOTT MCCABE • 7/8/12 12:00 AM

On June 13, 1972, a teenager pushing his bicycle on a country road near Fort Belvoir rolled up on the body of badly beaten boy.

Forty years later, police have yet to identify the dead child or find his killer. But their search continues.

Police have taken DNA samples and placed them in the FBI's National Missing Persons DNA Database.

The Alexandria-based National Center for Missing & Exploited Children created a computer-assisted facial reconstruction of the child to produce a lifelike photo of the boy in the hopes that someone will recognize his face and come forward with information that could help solve this case.

It's one of NCMEC's oldest cases.

The child was found in Massey Creek on Old Colchester Road just off of Interstate 95.

Police believe the boy was between 3 and 6-years-old. He was about 4 feet tall and weighed 50 pounds.

He had suffered blunt force trauma injuries to the head and abrasions, and was naked, but police found no evidence that he was sexually abused.

The autopsy found that the boy had a full stomach, indicating that he probably ate breakfast that morning, perhaps at one of the nearby restaurants along I-95.

At the time of his death, police checked Teletypes for missing children up and down the East Coast, but none matched the description of the boy found in Massey Creek.

Anyone with information, can contact NCMEC on its 24-hour Hotline: 800-THE-LOST (800-843-5678), or the Fairfax County Crime Solvers at 866-411-TIPS (8477). Callers never have to give their names or appear in court.
