Police closer to identifying body

By Jesse Reilly, Staff Writer
May 20, 2009

Two months after a body was found on the 2500 block of Pine Road just outside the fence area of Island Green Golf Course, the Lower Moreland Police Department is still waiting for answers.

After the Montgomery County Coroner’s Office’s results were ruled inconclusive the department turned to a forensic anthropologist to reconstruct the skeleton, that according to police reports, could have been out there for several months to two years.

The anthropologist reconstructed the skeleton earlier this week and is currently compiling the data in the computer, Detective John Pasqueal said, adding the process will take a few days to a week.

“We’re in the homestretch,” he said. “We’re hoping this will definitely tell us the approximate age and sex of the body and how long it was out there.”

When the body was first found it was believed that it was more likely to be a man than a woman, but there have been no definitive answers, the police said.

Although they have had a couple of leads since they found the body in late March, Pasqueal said they all went cold.

“We originally thought it could be a former employee of the golf course who lost his home and was living in the woods, but we contacted his brother and learned that he is alive and well,” he said, adding that the department also thought the body could be a Northeast Philadelphia man who went missing, but after discovering that the man had a metal bar in his arm, it was confirmed that it was not that person either.

“No one has stepped forward and we haven’t had a missing persons report in Lower Moreland for awhile,” he said, adding that they have also had little luck investigating reports in Montgomery County.

“The likelihood is that the person is from Philadelphia and once we get some more information, we will be working closely with the Philadelphia Police Department and going through their missing persons reports.”
